Top Ten-ish List of Things to Do to Celebrate Papa John's Birthday.

16. Passing five cars on Logan Canyon's dugway while steering the UteLiner with your knees as you pour more lemon juice in your Tab. Actually, I exaggerate a tad. Most of the time it was just one knee. (From Bill)
15. Upon receiving your fortune cookie, open it and with great fanfare announce "Help! I'm being held prisoner in a Chinese fortune cookie factory." (From Bill)
14. Identify men with bad toupees. (Watching the Motab is a good place to start.)
13. Write everything in balloon letters.
12. Visit a widow.
11. Make a generous donation to USU or the U of U - but not BYU.
10. Take a series of Kodachrome slides on a single topic. Some suggestions are Russian architecture, Norwegian doorways, and of course, skiing.
 9. Go skiing!
 8. Watch Lawrence Welk or the new Lawrence Welk, Dancing With the Stars.
 7. Run with arms down and one pocket full of keys and the other holding an overloaded coin purse.
 6. Plan ahead for Christmas to spoil your kids rotten.
 5. Ask the next member of the family you see, “What's the answer to the hard question?”
 4. Prune an over grown tree or bush to within an inch of its life.
 3. If you are in Sacrament meeting, you know what to do; two hymnals on left knee, left elbow on hymnals with head in left hand, rest eyes.
 2. Open a cafe which specializes in curry, banana bread and cheese, BLTs, bread and milk, and Tab
 1. Be the best husband/father/grandfather/in-law etc. as possible.

Happy Birthday Grandpa

Easter in Springville

Ready for Church on Easter Sunday. Our Easter decorations include a crown of thorns from Jerusalem, a model of the Garden Tomb and eggs from Krakow Poland.

Ben, Courtney and cute Clara joined us for church and dinner. They didn't tell us it was their anniversary. All of the Lundbergs also came for dinner, but I forgot to take photos.

Pink Flamingoes, Green Eggs, and White Soccer Balls - Happy Easter!

The deer have devoured all our tulips and pansies, leaving just one single crocus with which to celebrate spring.  Adrienne and Laura, recognizing that our yard could use more color, flocked us Saturday morning with pink flamingoes in support of the Child and Family Support Center.  Oblivious as usual, I retrieved the newspaper from the front steps while they were flocking and didn't notice a thing.

Then it was off for some soccer.  Max and Chance play on the same team, coached by Tyler, and the boys seem to be getting the basics down pretty well.  They can certainly pose for a pre-game photo pretty well.

Coach Falslev pointing out where Chance needs to throw in.

Chance and Max, each taking advantage of proper tongue placement, move the ball upfield.

Koebe and Jaxson, who are teammates as well, are also pretty skilled, each scoring a goal for their team.

After morning soccer fun, it was back to the house for some burgers, salads, and desserts.  The weather cooperated enough for some relaxation on the deck.

Then came time for the Easter treat hunt.  Nash, undaunted by raspberry canes, grabs hold of her prize.

Jack seems to have found almost more than he can handle.

What better way to celebrate a successful Easter Egg hunt than among our friends the flamingoes.

We end the day with the traditional "rolling of the colored eggs" from atop College Hill, followed shortly by the traditional "dodging of the seagulls scavanging egg parts" from College Hill.

Good times.  Hope everyone had a wonderful Easter weekend as well.

Jack's Soccer Debut & John's Coaching Debut

John is coaching Jack's 6 and under team - which is also known as Jack and the four cute girls.  The game is played 3 on 3 with no goalie.  This game had all the drama you would expect from 4 and 5 year olds.  Own goals, hand balls, shin guards on the outside of the socks, wrong way runs, stealing the ball from teammates and more.  A ton of fun.

The nervous coach reviewing his game plan

Looks like Jack might have his first ever break-away going

 He's in the box....

 He shoots...

 He scores....  Gooooooaaaaaaaaaaaaaallllllllllllll

 High Fives for all

The fans were nervously watching the scoreboard.

Isabel might have missed some the the action, but that matters not because she is so dang cute!

Eyes down field, foot on the ball, just like my coach taught me.

That ball is rolling too fast, I think I'll just reach down and slow it down with my hand.

"Good Game.  Hey I'm sorry I'm such a bust as a coach.  I didn't bring any Capri Suns or Orange Slices - but Beth does have some fun fruits so all is not lost."

Happy 11th Birthday Alex

Alex enjoyed his breakfast of choice before his school day. Two eggs, 2 pieces of white toast, 3 strips of bacon and a large glass of milk.

One of his gifts is a life size FatHead sticker of Alex catching some air on skis

His soccer game was called after about 7 minutes of play because of lightning. Good.... we were off to dinner quicker. Grandma Emmett joined the Nyman clan for a pizza and pasta at Firehouse. Five days before his 11th birthday Alex skied his first decent of No-Name at Snowbasin with his uncle Bill and Bob and cousin John, a 10 minute hike is required to get to the avalanche controlled ski area. Can you say Powder?

Papa John's Family Fun Ski-in-Ski-Out Grill Extravaganza

YPR gettin' 'er done.  Brats, Hot Dogs, Burgers, Grilled Jalapenos, Onions & Kraut

 Tom, Shelly, Norda! and Adrienne

The Group wasn't as large as the 33 we had at Christmas, but we had a good group.  Next year we'll look for a warm spring day that is not on conference weekend for the 2nd Annual Papa John's Family Fun Ski-In-Ski-Out Grill Extravaganza.  Notice Little Clark (L) w/ blue shovel and Big Alex (R) with gold shovel in the background.  Earlier in the day Clark (aka Big Alex) said to Alex (aka Little Clark) something like, "While the grown-ups eat we can build a jump".  Can't argue that Clark is young at heart!
I hope someone brought back mom's tan chairs that I left in the parking lot!
