Condolences

Just a few of those that have expressed their condolences.  Thank you to all who have expressed words of love and kindness.  Our dad, husband and grandfather was one of a kind, his love and concern for others will be missed.  I've captured some of the words of condolence from the Herald Journal Obituary and from the Nelson Mortuary Tribute page and some personal email and Facebook comments.    Bob

What a great guy! The last time I spoke with Doc Emmett was skiing on little Beaver - he was trying out those two new knees and wondering if it was a good idea - and still cracking jokes. I guessed that he was there without his doctor's permission - he suggested that we should probably just keep it a secret. I count myself lucky to have known him and all your family. Bill - you're still the best powder skier I know. Bob & the rest of us have great memories chasing you down the backside - and all those trips to Targee. My best to each of you. Your father will be greatly missed. Love,

Our condolences to your entire family. Many of my best memories through high school involve the Emmett home, Hi-C grape, Norda and Doc. He was one of the really good guys. All of our lives are that much better for having known him and benefitted from his life and influence. A life well lived and an example to all who knew him. His kids aren't half bad either! Our best to you all.

Of all the great things about Logan, Spudnuts, Blue Bird candy, swimming in the fish pond, Grandma Emmett's feather bed, the greatest was going to John and Noorda's for curry, cousins and fun. Uncle John has always been the foundation of the extended family and it's going to be hard to replace a man like that. All the Holley's in Las Vegas send their love and admiration for the whole Emmett family.

Memories of being at the Emmett home before LOTOJA with family and friends will be forever dear to our hearts. Norda and John always welcomed us as family and treated us as such. Peach ice cream and the great company we enjoyed at the Emmett home has been as sweet as life gets. Thanks John and Norda for always opening your home and being examples of friendship and love.

Dear Chad and family,
I was sorry to learn of your father's passing. I never had the privilege of meeting him, but I have heard so much about him from others. It sounds like he passed on a lot of his character (and his humor) to his children. That is his best legacy.

Dear Emmett family -- I am sorry to hear about Dr. Emmett's passing. I have wonderful memories with Mary and your family: riding up to Beaver in the motor home, skiing at Targhee, playing in the backyard treehouse, and riding in the cool old-fashioned car. I fondly remember when Dr. Emmett took Mary and I in the motor home to General Conference. After the priesthood session we went out for ice cream and met one of the General Authorities. It was always fun with the Emmetts! My thoughts and prayers are with your family. Much love to Mary!
Sincerely,
Shari Mortenson Nyman

I wanted to express my heartfelt condolences to Bob and the rest of the Emmett family. I only met John a couple times over the past few years during the traditional peach ice cream feed prior to LOTOJA. He was always a gracious host to me and all the qwirky cyclists who invaded his home each September. My sympathy and best wishes to the whole family. May God bless you all at this tender time.

Our sincere condolences. They broke the mold with Dr. John. Of many fond memories, let me share his comment to me when we were discussing our mutual love of skiing a few years ago: "You know Jody, I have spent a lot of money foolishly in my life, but never on skiing".

Norda, I have good memories of teaching school with you in 1948&1949 and jumping the rope. We were both newly weds with John and Morris. We send love. Elaine (kindergarten teacher)

Dear Norda Emmett and Family,
We extend our sympathies to you at John's passing. He was certainly a good example for each of us. You and John have raised a fine family and together have accomplished much good.
John has moved to the next step in his eternal progression. He has likely been called to teach the gospel to those who have no knowledge of it----so they may accept it if they so choose.
May the comforting blessings and the guidance of our Father in Heaven be with you at this time.

Sincerely,
Dean & Julia Berntson Logan, UT
Mary and Jim,
We were very saddened to hear about your dad. It's a difficult time but having close family takes some of the sting away. You are in our prayers.

Tom,
I didn't get the chance to meet your Dad but based on what I know of his sons he must have been a wonderful father. My thoughts are with you during this difficult time.

Pauline and I were shocked and sorrowed to hear of the death of John. Our love and thoughts go out to Norda and to their children. We learned of the death in the afternoon of Friday, 31 September and of course the funeral was already over. Know that our thoughts are with the family at this time

Thank you, thank you, to the family of John Emmett. Dr. Emmett and his family are cherished and stalwart parts of my youth. Growing up down the street, I also was the recipient of a frequent message from the Emmett home teachers: "Be nice, and don't hit." We have a wonderful quilt from Norda - a wedding gift from 34 years ago. My regrets for things I have neglected to do over the years are softened by our prospects of eternal progress in the gospel community of friends. The funeral today was a great tribute to a great man.

Bob, our condolences for you. Really wish we could be there. He must have been a great man, as evidenced by his children and the credit they bring to him. With kind regards to you and family, John Evans and family.

Bob thank you the inspiring article. I can see that many of your fine attributes come from your dad. His life will continue to bless others through you, I'm sure of that. Our friendship, though separated by distance and time, is one of my most cherished. Hold Annie's hand, give your kids a big group hug, and know you dad is waiting to do the same again.
Much love, Todd Brown

Bob –
I’ve talked to Tom…  have yet to talk to Bill…. But want you to know you and yours are very much in my thoughts…I’m sure there is relief that the suffering has ended – but I’m also sure it’s not easy.
Your father was, without a doubt, a great man – who reared an amazing family.  I’m sorry for your loss –I’ll be talking with you on Thurs and Friday -
Jeff Shepherd

Your dad set the bar high… you have a lot to live up to my friend!
Brad Curtis

Bob,
I am very sorry to hear about the passing of your father.  I appreciate you informing me; otherwise, I may not have heard about it since I don’t read the newspapers or have anyone in Logan who keeps me up-to-date.
Although I thought that I had prepared myself emotionally for the passing of my parents (in light of their progressive health deterioration over their latter years), it was still a very emotional event for me.  It simply takes time to overcome the void in your life because it can never be replaced.  With time, you learn to live without their unconditional love and support in your life and you look back gratefully on the wonderful upbringing, memories and life they gave you.
My thoughts and prayers are with your family and you at this time.
Take care,   Kent DeHart

Bob:  thanks so much for sharing this life history with us.  Please accept our sincere condolences at the passing of your wonderful father.  Truly, he was a man of Christ, and he loved and served wherever he was planted.  We will continue to remember you in our prayers, and we pray the Lord will comfort you and the family with His love and with the Holy Spirit.
Best Regards,  Peter B. Harker

We were sorry to hear of the passing of your father.  We know he must have been a great man for he had great son and fruit doesn't fall far from the tree.

I won't quote the following scripture to you but I have had much peace of mind when reading it after death of a love one.  It is Enos 1: 27  Insert your father name in it when you read it an I hope it will bring you and your family much love for your father and Heavenly Father.

Please accept Bunkie and mine condolences. You have always been a great priesthood leader so your father must have been  one  also and some day I know you will all be together forever. We will pray for you and your family.

With much love

I adored Dr. Emmett. I feel so blessed to have known such a great Doctor. He was a true gentle giant, and a great man of the Lord. Neil and I send our deepest sympathy to your family and to your wonderful Mom. - Tamara L. McMurdie
